Timor-Lest Coffee Connections

In late 2022 Silva Coffee connected with coffee producer and entrepreneur, Ameta, in Timor-Leste and began to source his coffees from the Atsabe region. This led to a partnership with Warburton based business, Maddog Adventure Company and together in 2023 we hosted a coffee origin tour in Timor-Leste.

On our travels to Ameta's coffee farm and wet-mill in Atsabe, we were honored to be presented with our very own 'Silva Coffee Microlot' of 100 coffee trees. Next year (2025) the coffee will be ready to harvest and we'll decide on the processing method, washed, natural or honey and ship it to the Yarra Valley to roast for you!

Timor-Leste is little known to both caffeine enthusiasts and travellers alike, but the history of coffee dates way back to the 1800s, when it was introduced by the Portuguese. It quickly became responsible for half of the country’s exports, until Indonesia gained control of Timor in the 1970s. During this tumultuous period coffee was largely abandoned by farmers until the nation gained full independence in 2002. Over the past few decades Timor has gotten to work securing its status as a coveted coffee destination.
